Go the Extra Mile with GEM

Employee recognition is an integral part of Zebra’s culture and ties directly to our core values. The primary way we recognize extra-ordinary employee contributions is through GEM, Zebra’s global reward and recognition program.

GEM is a points-based award program used to recognize behaviors and results that have a positive impact on company performance. Here’s how it works:

Program Highlights

  • Employees and managers have access to the easy-to-use GEM portal.
  • All managers globally receive an allotment of GEM points each quarter, which can be used to recognize the efforts of their team members or any Zebra employee globally.
  • Employees may also earn points from project leaders who want to recognize a team for their outstanding efforts in completing a project.
  • Employees can redeem points for items and experiences in the GEM catalog (located on the GEM portal).
  • Zebra reports the dollar value of the GEM points earned as imputed income on the employee’s paycheck following the receipt of GEM points. GEM points are considered taxable income by the IRS. However, rest assured Zebra will pay any taxes due on the employee’s behalf for GEM points awarded.

Employees can also use the GEM portal to recognize co-workers with a “peer-to-peer” note of appreciation. The platform lets you keep track of your peer recognition history and see who is receiving recognition through a social media-like interface. While peer-to-peer recognition doesn’t come with points, sharing gratitude with co-workers is a way for you to positively impact our day-to-day culture and performance.

Recognizing Service Anniversaries

Zebra appreciates the special contributions our long-service employees make and formally recognizes them through our Global Service Awards program.

The program awards GEM points to you whenever you celebrate a milestone service anniversary with Zebra (i.e., every five years from your adjusted service date). Points are deposited into your GEM account on your anniversary date, and you can redeem them for items and experiences on the GEM portal.

In addition to GEM points, you will also receive an anniversary plaque and a personalized anniversary webpage within the GEM platform that will be filled with messages and memories from colleagues past and present.
